ABOUT
Chaone Labs is an independent R&D studio run by Larry Grullon-Polanco, with research direction from cofounder Jihye Kim. Most of what we build starts as something we needed ourselves. A better lesson planner, a research tool that didn't exist, a way to make applied linguistics more usable. Some of it stays open source and some of it turns into collaborations.

THE TEAM
Larry Grullon-Polanco, M.A.
Cofounder & Lead Engineer
Applied linguist and full-stack engineer. M.A. in Applied Linguistics from USF, Fulbright ETA to Taiwan, and researcher at Moffitt Cancer Center working on LLM-based clinical text abstraction. Builds at the intersection of discourse analysis, data science, and software.
Jihye Kim, Ph.D.
Cofounder & Research Director
Applied linguist and researcher specializing in second language acquisition, Korean language pedagogy, and sociolinguistics. Jihye brings the pedagogical grounding and research rigor that keeps the lab's education work working, particularly on Korean language tools and curriculum-aligned projects.

Most research and teaching software is built by people who don't do research or teaching. They build what they think we need, not what we actually need.
We're applied linguists who believe in the power of technology to transform education and research. We custom build tools for people and their needs.
Our software and tools are specific, transparent, and built to last.
We're early-stage and intentionally small.
